Frequently Asked Questions

Looking to learn more about self storage at Daffodil Storage? We’re here to help! We’ve compiled a list of the questions we hear most often from our customers.

Don’t see the answer to your question? Give your nearest Daffodil Storage facility a call, and we’ll be more than happy to help. We want to make your self storage experience as simple and convenient as possible, so do not hesitate to reach out.

We are pleased to offer several discounts for new customers, so check our location webpages for current promotions. We strive to offer some of the most affordable storage options, such as 50% off your first month, first two months, or even your first three months. Incentives and discounts vary over time and by location, on select unit sizes only. Be sure to ask a storage manager which promotions may apply to you.

Our rentals are on a month-to-month basis, meaning there’s never a long-term commitment to your self storage unit. Your lease renews automatically each month until we are notified you no longer need your unit. Be it weeks, months, or years, Daffodil Storage is only there when you need us.

For sure! Daffodil Storage offers convenient, free online reservations. Go to any facility page to find your perfect fit. After you reserve a unit, one of our helpful team members will give you a call just to verify your selected store, unit size, and share some tips about our online move-in. We will never pressure you to rent, and there is no cost for making a reservation. You can still reserve a unit over the phone or see it in person first.

Once you are ready to rent your unit, you can do that online too if you like. You will receive a link to start your online move-in via email and/or text message upon making a successful reservation. Fill that out, and you can be moving into your unit in no time! Complete your online lease by 5:00 p.m. if you need access the same day.

Only if you are ready to rent! However, we recommend that you reserve a unit tentatively if you are even thinking about renting it. Reservations are free and we will not pressure you to rent, but units do go quickly. A reservation is the only way to secure a specific promotion or price, and no credit card is needed. If you decide you don’t need it, just let us know and we will cancel, no questions asked.

Not to worry! By using our storage unit size guide, you might find that you’d be better off in a different size unit. It is quick and simple to switch to a larger or smaller unit. Call our leasing office or stop by and we will get you sorted.

Yes! Locks specifically aligned to our storage units are provided absolutely free of charge at the time of your initial move-in. If you rent a smart unit, the lock is attached to the unit already. You will receive the only keys to the lock (we don’t keep a copy), so be sure to keep them in a safe place and separate them immediately. If you lose all your keys, we must cut your lock and there is an associated fee.

We do! Heavy duty push carts are available onsite to make moving your items down a hallway or up an elevator a snap. We also sell boxes or other packing supplies in our leasing offices. A limited number of our facilities have moving trucks to rent, terms and conditions apply. Moving can be stressful, so we do everything we can to help make the storage part easier.

Absolutely! Stop by the leasing office of your nearest Daffodil Storage facility during office hours to see what is available. Most of our facilities are stocked with a complete line of shipping and moving merchandise for sale, including boxes of varying sizes, packing tape, bubble wrap, mattress and other furniture protectors, and more.

Prorating is used to calculate your move-in rental cost because the first month you rent from us may not be full length. Rent is always due on the 1st after initial move-in, but your lease can start any day of the month. Prorate means that if your lease begins after the 1st of the month, you only pay for the days actually rented that month. As a policy, we prorate in any rental that begins after the 1st of the month, but we do not prorate out for a partial month when you move out. Our staff is unable to refund partial rent if you move out of your unit mid-month. We recommend moving out of your unit at the end of the month so you are using your unit all the days you paid for.

Daffodil Storage is proud to provide storage solutions to meet a wide variety of needs in Washington, including those of residents and businesses. With a range of storage unit sizes, heated storage units, mailbox rentals, and so much more, residents and businesses of all sorts can find storage space at Daffodil Storage.

Of course! Check out our storage tips page for some good ideas and guidance to help get you started.

Offering secure storage units in the Puget Sound region is one of our top priorities at Daffodil Storage. In the pursuit of storage security, each facility is fully fenced and requires either a code or app to open the gate. You are given a brand new lock at move-in with all the keys, so you control who can access your unit. For your peace of mind, our facilities are equipped with security cameras. Select facilities make use of an off-site security center that can view our surveillance cameras after hours to further enhance your storage unit’s security.

Even with our security measures, we can always use a little help from our tenants. Keep an eye out and report any suspicious activity to your leasing office. As you visit our facility, please always code in and out with your code or app, even if the gate is open, so our system can keep an accurate record of who comes and goes. Finally, be sure to securely lock up your unit each time you leave.

Availability varies, but we do offer car, RV, and boat storage at several locations from Puyallup to Port Orchard to Lacey. Our Gotta Store It location has some covered parking spaces. Some of our stores, including Rainier View Storage Buckley, Summit View Storage, and Daffodil Storage Valley Ave offer extra wide storage units that might fit a boat or vehicle. Find your nearest storage facility today to check parking storage availability and to learn the vehicle storage requirements.

We offer both heated and unheated storage units. We usually suggest storing your belongings in a heated storage unit, as these are more effective in protecting delicate belongings-such as furniture, wood, textiles or electronics-from the low outdoor temperatures that we often see in Washington. Heat either comes from a forced air system or a radiant heat system, where heat radiates from the floor. Do keep in mind, units are not heated to the same level you would your house, so temperature sensitive items are best left at home. Like most storages in Western Washington, our units are not air conditioned.

If you choose a heated unit, remember to properly pack, stack, and store your items to allow proper airflow and ventilation. This is a vital yet often overlooked step! Learn more about how best to store your belongings with our storage tips.

No, we do not provide electricity inside our units.

A smart lock or smart unit means you use an app on your smartphone to access your unit. Some of our locations are fully smart facilities, meaning your phone opens the gate, the building, and your unit. Smart units are the latest in self storage security, giving you full control and history of your unit access. You can share or revoke access with a friend through the app, see access history, and unlock your unit, all on your phone! No more frantically looking for keys when you need to visit your storage unit. Look for the Smart Locks feature on your desired unit size on any facility page to know if the unit you are reserving is a smart unit.

Property use hours are every day of the year from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. excluding only our Gotta Store It location, which is 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. for security purposes. Being on property outside of these hours is considered trespassing. 24 hour access is not permitted, as this helps us to keep the property more secure.

Yes, we do require you to carry insurance on your stored items in case the unexpected happens. Although the building is ours, the stuff is yours, and if anything should happen to your stored items, you would file a claim directly with your insurance. You are more than welcome to use your renters or homeowners insurance if you have it, but ours may often have broader coverage and there is no deductible to meet. During your move-in, we’ve made it easy to select a suitable level of coverage that best meets your coverage needs. With plans as low as $11-12 a month, you can’t afford to be without it!

No, you may not. Some items are prohibited for the safety of our tenants and their belongings, including: flammable materials, liquids, explosives, loaded firearms, illegal drugs, animals (living or not), and live or dried plants. Food of any kind is not allowed as it attracts rodents and bugs, which can spread to neighboring units. Please refrain from eating or drinking anything but water on premises. If food is seen in your unit you will be asked to move out immediately, no exceptions. Although not prohibited, it is best not to store priceless heirlooms and art, or items with sentimental value either.

Unfortunately, your unit cannot be used for any of those. Your storage unit is to be used for retrieving or dropping off items only. If you are actively rearranging your unit, that is fine, but otherwise it is considered loitering. Some storage facilities are created specifically for commercial or recreational use, but you will not find any of those at Daffodil Storage.

Your rent is due on the first of every month. Your gate access will be disabled after 6 days past due, and a late fee of $20 or 20% is added to your account on the 11th if rent is still unpaid. If your rent remains unpaid for over 45 days, your unit is at risk of going to lien sale auction which we try to help avoid.

We strongly recommend our customers sign up for automatic payments to avoid problems or late fees. If you’re in a time of financial distress, reach out as soon as possible if you don’t think you’ll be able to pay your storage unit rent in time.

To provide the highest level of convenience to our customers, we allow many forms of payment. You’re more than welcome to drop by during the open office hours to make a payment in person with cash, check, or card. Or, you can save yourself a trip by paying online any time. Just go to the top of this page where you see “About,” select “Pay Bill,” and use your phone number or username to log in. From there, you can check your balance, pay your bill, view payment history, or set up automatic payments.

Start by letting us know when you plan to be done with your unit. Please give us at least ten days’ notice. Since we are unable to prorate your rent out, we highly recommend moving out on the last day of the month.

Empty your unit completely, including all trash or items you no longer wish to keep. Items left in your unit may result in a disposal fee, or we will simply continue to charge you rent since you are still using your unit. Remove your lock completely from the unit (remember, you have the only keys) and leave your unit door open. If you have a Smart Lock you must leave the door open otherwise your unit will lock and still appear rented. Failure to remove your lock or leave your Smart Unit open will result in our inability to process your move out and you will continue being charged rent.

As your last step, please stop in, call, or email when you are completely moved out. Although you have scheduled a move-out, plans can change or take more time than expected. Let us know if you need to reschedule or cancel a move out, we are flexible! Just keep us updated on when you are finished, and ask us to email your move-out receipt. If you find yourself in need of storage again, we’ll be here.

Since we do not keep any keys to your lock, a lock cut is required. There is a lock cut fee of $50, and you need to come into the office to sign a form to allow the lock cut. In order to avoid the lock cut fee and inconvenience of waiting for your lock to be cut, we ask that you please separate your keys immediately upon receiving them so that you don’t lose them all at once!

If you are in a smart unit and have lost your phone, you will need to go into our leasing office where our staff can help you regain access.
